EC publishes 2019 Communication on EU Enlargement Policy

The Commission recommends that the Council open negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia. A credible enlargement policy in the future years will mean that the EU must live up to its commitments, and give credit where credit is due. Whereas credible progress in the area of rule of law in the Western Balkans remains a significant challenge, we look forward to contributing to an efficient and aligned EU policy approach. We also hope to continue, at our best ability, to our colleagues in the region, also by providing greater visibility to their results and the results of their work with the entire donor community. The Communications (link below) finds that all Western Balkans countries actively participate in the Western Balkans Counter Terrorism Initiative (WBCTi). Regional cooperation remains an essential element of the enlargement agenda. The proposal of the Commission for the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA III) under the next multiannual financial framework 2021-2027 foresees a solid policy-driven approach.
