1st Regional Roadmap Coordination Meeting

In the context of the implementation of the European Union Council Decision 2018/1788/CFSP of 19 November 2018 in support of the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans, and as part of the Franco-German initiative on combatting illicit trafficking of firearms in the Western Balkans, SEESAC is organising the 1st Regional Coordination Meeting on the implementation of the Roadmap for a sustainable solution to the illegal possession, misuse and trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and their ammunition in the Western Balkans by 2024, which will be held on 28 May 2019 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The 1st Regional Roadmap Coordination meeting will gather representatives of SALW Commissions in the Western Balkans, which are beneficiaries of the Roadmap, representatives of international organizations engaged in arms control in the region, as well as the key donors in the area.

This meeting will provide the opportunity to inform on and coordinate activities under implementation as per the specific goals of the Roadmap, present the baseline data as collected by the authorities on the Roadmap Key Performance Indicators, discuss contributions from the international organizations engaged in arms control in the region and donor support in countering the proliferation and illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons, within the Roadmap framework.

SEESAC Meeting of regional steering group on SALW

Regional Steering Group Meeting (RSG) on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), co-chaired by RCC and UNDP will take place on 5 March in Belgrade, Serbia.

The key objectives of the meeting are to:

  • provide a forum for the exchange of information on current and future SAWL projects in the region and challenges encountered during the implementation of activities both at regional and national levels;
  • review national and regional SAWL control priorities and plans for 2019;
  • update the RSG on SEESAC activities in 2018; and
  • assess progress in the implementation of the Regional Implementation Plan and priorities for 2019.
