On 8th of February 2024, IISG Secretariat actively participated in a meeting with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia Mr. Danilo Stevandić. Warm greetings were extended to the delegation of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) represented by the Political Director Mr. Amer Kapetanovic, and the IISG Secretariat represented by Mr. Agron Sojati, signifying the collaborative spirit and security efforts.

Serbia’s integral role in the IISG and other key regional security platforms was underscored during the meeting, emphasizing its significant contributions to fostering stability across the Western Balkans region. The meeting showcased the positive outcomes and efficacy of the IISG, with particular recognition of Serbia’s persistent participation and support.

Emphasizing its commitment to European Union integration and regional cooperation, Serbia reaffirmed its dedication to addressing pressing security challenges such as terrorism and organised crime.

A key focal point of the meeting was Serbia’s insistence on maintaining status neutrality within IISG activities to safeguard against potential politicisation, ensuring a steadfast focus on collective security objectives. Furthermore, plans were outlined to enhance communication channels, streamline operational procedures, and formalise membership regulations within the IISG framework.

Efforts to bolster the IISG Database with a dedicated cybersecurity component were announced, reflecting a proactive approach towards adapting to evolving security threats in the digital landscape. Additionally, discussions centered on the upcoming phase of the IISG, encompassing recruitment processes and proposed modifications to the terms of reference aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.

The meeting culminated on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing regional security cooperation within the Western Balkans. The constructive dialogue and shared vision for collective security underscored the importance of continued partnership in addressing complex security challenges facing the region.
